Dmitri Ivanovitch Mendeleev (1834-1907)
Russian physicist and chemist, was born in Tobolsk, in Siberia (1834), and died in S. Petersburg (1907).
Mendeleev studied and graduated in the Central Pedagogic Institute of S. Petersburg, being later nominated teacher in Odessa, Crimea. After a few years of teaching, went to the University of Heidelberg, Germany, where he performed a series of researches in spectroscopy together with Kirchhoff and Bunsen, leading to his Ph.D. thesis. Back to Russia was appointed Professor at the University of S. Petersburg. Performed many research works in chemistry and physics and presented the periodic classification of the elements, in 1869.
