Steel with vanadium

Highly pure individual rare earths at reasonable prices have not been available commercially for a sufficient time to allow large scale industrial uses to be developed.

It is already clear that the rare earth, and particularly erbium, play an important role in laser production and development, in the electronics industry and in some sensing instruments. However the most important use of the heavy rare earths is as powerful tools used by scientists to obtain a better understanding of chemical, physical and metallurgical principles and to obtain a clearer picture of the nature of matter.
